WHAT COLOR SHOULD I CHOOSE FOR MY CAR?

Are we taking the car blue? No, red! But the gray will come back better! Choosing a car color is often a headache. Again, a lot of prejudices that we will confirm or deny.

How to decide the color of a new car? As you will see, there are quite a few parameters to consider.

WHAT COLOR SHOULD I CHOOSE FOR MY CAR?
WHAT COLOR SHOULD I CHOOSE FOR MY CAR?

RESALE: GRAY, NOT REQUIRED

You have not yet bought your car that you are already thinking about reselling. 75% of new cars are currently white, gray, or black. It is certainly not very original, but the buyers have their reason: resale.

Indeed, an orange car will probably find it harder to buy than a gray car...

But builders also offer timeless colors, which sublime the lines of a car. In the second-hand market, gray cars are drowned in the mass and all look alike, this does not optimize the chances of selling faster...

So, treat yourself! Dare the color, but never go to extremes. There are sumptuous colors that are very sought after, like the yellow Sirius from Renault...

Our choice: color, to differentiate themselves and thus stand out from the crowd, without falling into the vulgar.

THE AESTHETIC: WHAT TO CHOOSE?

  • If there is a purely subjective notion, it is the choice of color.
  • Some would not imagine a Mercedes in a different color than the ever-present gray, with a black interior.
  • Others will prefer a burgundy interior cream.
  • The most important thing is that you like a car, that its color makes it even more desirable to your eyes, and that it matches you.
  • A sports car in a conspicuous tone is not disturbing.

There are also safe values, the historical colors of the builders, such as the red of Alfa Romeo, the yellow of the Corvettes, or the red Ferrari. It's a guarantee not to make mistakes!

There is also this fashion phenomenon, which consists in giving color to small cars, playing on the fun and fun sides. And why not?

CLEANING: GRAY REQUIRED?

To make your car look clean most of the time, you will either need to take a Blue Elephant membership or choose a low-dirt color.

Black is reputed to be very dirty. That's true, but white is even truer. Tar stains come out very clearly and rigorous maintenance is essential, or your car will quickly lose its superb.

Our choice: gray remains by far the least visually dirty hue.

THE COST: MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE

Typically, manufacturers offer a standard opaque white paint. Sometimes an opaque black, a red, or even a yellow are standard.

For all others (including gray), you must go through the options box.

Good point, colors are rarely more expensive than shades of gray, with some exceptions, such as shades that require more layers of paint, for more depth.

Driving in a car dressed in a sumptuous blue full of reflections will therefore not necessarily cost you more than the gray of your neighbor's minivan.

Our choice: if your budget is tight, white opaque is a good alternative. If necessary, treat yourself to one of the metalized paintings on offer.

AGING: WHICH COLOR IS THE MOST DURABLE?

You have certainly noticed in the street, some paintings age very badly, sometimes the varnish peels and tarnish a bodywork.

Although some paintings are known to age poorly, this is only known after 5 to 10 years. It is therefore difficult to take this into account in the case of a new car.

  • More generally, it is the use you make of a car that will condition its aging.
  • By having her sleep in a garage, you will reduce the effects of the moon (and the sun).
  • Your car will also be less exposed to small urban shocks that weaken the structure of the paint.

However, a small impact is indeed less visible on a gray car... But should we give in to classicism? It's up to you!

Our choice: prefer bright paintings, which are mostly more durable.

REPAIRS: OPAQUE OR BRILLIANT?

Bodywork can get damaged more or less overtime, sometimes it may be necessary to do some retouching on the bodywork, erase a bump or restore shine.

Opaque paints are the least expensive to repair because their composition is more rudimentary than metalized paints. Color or shade of gray, there is no difference in cost.

There are many references to gray, so the costs are not less, contrary to the preconceived ideas...

Our choice: the opaque, for its cheaper repairs.

BRITONS: THE RIGHT IDEA?

  • This is a trend that began in the early 2010s, biton paintings.
  • The latter makes a car more personal and personal.
  • On the other hand, at resale, (too) colorful combinations may put off some buyers.
  • Be sure never to associate two overly garish tones.

Finally, when it comes to repairing, the cost can quickly become very high, if you scratch for example your Peugeot 208 GTI clean-cut, the repair in bodywork will be both complex and expensive...

Our choice: a biton composed of a neutral tone (white, gray, black) associated with a color.
