Overview


The 2022 Chiron is a follow-up to the iconic Veyron, combining the brand's pedigree and its predecessor's performance into one stunning—and shockingly capable—machine. The Chiron's almost $3 million price tag befits its outlandish attitude, yet even at that price, it's a great value. 



It's propelled by a massive 16-cylinder engine that's a wonder of modern engineering, capable of reaching speeds of 300 mph and higher. Aside from performance that will change over time, the Chiron appears to be unlike anything else on the road—save perhaps a Veyron—and its cabin is lined with excellent materials that justify its price tag.



No, Apple CarPlay or a semi-autonomous driving mode aren't available on this beauty, but who cares? The Chiron is simply not burdened by the same practical demands and requirements as a Lamborghini or a McLaren, allowing it to serve as autodom's halo vehicle.



What's New for 2022?



  • For 2022, Bugatti has introduced the Pur Sport variant to its Chiron portfolio. 
  • This handling-focused version costs $3.6 million, but it includes suspension modifications, a 110-pound reduced curb weight, and a rear spoiler that provides more downforce. 
  • The Pur Sport might be a limited-edition vehicle, with just 60 being produced.


People who pick automobiles like the Chiron do so because they want to make a statement on the street, at the valet stand, or in front of the Casino in Monte Carlo. The lower Chiron definitely fits the bill, with its soaring lines and renowned sky-high price.



We anticipate that this model will put a grin on the face of even the most discerning hypercar customer. Quad LED headlights and complete power accessories are included as standard equipment on the Chiron.



Engine, Transmission, and Performance


  • An 8.0-liter 16-cylinder powertrain powers all Chiron versions. 
  • This monster engine has four turbochargers to produce 1500 horsepower and 1180 pound-feet of torque. 
  • The Chiron, according to Bugatti, accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 2.3 seconds and has a peak speed of 261 mph. 
  • If the Chiron's basic engine isn't enough to satisfy your need for speed, the Chiron Super Sport 300+ will. 
  • This variant comes with a somewhat more powerful version of the bottom powertrain, which generates, 1578 horsepower.


A vehicle with features very identical to the Chiron Super Sport 300+ scored a record-setting 304.773 mph test-track run, piloted by factory driver Andy Wallace. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission sends power to all or any four wheels on every model in the Chiron series.



Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG



The Chiron, as one might expect from a car with a 1500-hp engine, will not win any environmental awards. According to the EPA, the 2022 Chiron can get up to 9 miles per gallon in the city and 14 miles per gallon on the highway. 



Both values decline by 1 MPG in the Pur Sport. We haven't driven the Chiron on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route as part of our rigorous testing, so we won't be able to assess its real-world MPG.



Interior, Comfort, and Cargo



The outside of the Chiron has a C-shaped design cue etched into the side panels, and this element is also visible within the cabin. The beautiful curvature of a partition that divides the driver and passenger reflects this. Bugatti has outfitted the inside of the Chiron with top-of-the-line materials, resulting in space-age stylistic features that offer quirky appeal. 



The driver is greeted with a flat-bottomed wheel, and Bugatti claims the shiny center console is made of one piece of pure metal. It's wise to travel light with the Chiron. Only two cubic feet of cargo capacity are available in the trunk.



Infotainment and Connectivity



The Chiron's exclusive focus on performance necessitates tradeoffs in terms of infotainment. This Bugatti is designed to behave like a race car, and it has the stripped-down electronics to match. There is no infotainment screen, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality are not available. 



The car's entertainment system is essentially restricted to an audio system and a guest computer. The audio system, on the other hand, produces excellent sound and has four tweeters, each with a one-carat diamond membrane for precise output. That's what you'd expect from a car that starts in the millions of dollars.



Safety and Driver-Assistance Features



The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety have not crash-tested the 2022 Bugatti Chiron (IIHS). It doesn't come with standard driver-assistance features like blind-spot monitoring.
