Land Rover Range Rover 2022

The 2022 Range Rover's high-end interior and first-class curb appeal are meant to lure rich, white-collar owners, despite its blue-collar heritage extending back more than a half-century.

This leather-lined limo's metamorphosis has taken decades, but it's now reached a position where its almost six-figure starting price feels reasonable. The cabin's premium features include leather, wood, and highly piled rugs.

New 2022 Range Rover Review

There's a lot of technology as well. Buyers may choose between a turbocharged inline-six and a 523-hp twin-turbo V-8 engine, but all variants come equipped with off-road features like all-wheel drive, and rear-wheel steering, and an air suspension that can be raised for more ground clearance.

Few Range Rover owners would venture too far from paved roads, but knowing that you can is comfort. In an unexpected twist, until inventory runs out, the new Range Rover, which will be available for the 2022 model year, will be marketed alongside a 2022 model of the previous generation.

What's New for the Year 2022?

The all-new 2022 Range Rover—not to be confused with the outgoing model, which is also a 2022—has been entirely redesigned, with new technology, elegant touches, and improved appearance. For the 2023 model year, a more premium and more customizable SV trim will be added to the range.

The current-generation Range Rover, which is also a 2022 model and already on sale, receives just minor updates for 2022. The diesel V-6 and plug-in hybrid P400e models are no longer available in the new Range Rover range, leaving just the turbocharged inline-six and supercharged V-8 engines. Buyers may now upgrade to a more powerful cabin air-ionization system.

Pricing and Choosing Which One to Purchase

Land Rover hasn't announced a whole list of standard and optional features for the 2018 Range Rover, but we recommend going with the mid-range Autobiography model, which will likely have some desirable amenities that luxury consumers would love.

The Autobiography, for example, includes a 1600-watt Meridian sound system with headrest-mounted speakers and active noise suppression as standard equipment. The Range Rover will be available in both short- and long-wheelbase body styles, with the latter providing additional space for the third row of seats and a larger luggage compartment. We'll update this piece with further information when we learn more about how each of the Range Rover trim levels will be outfitted.

Performance, Engine, and Transmission

The 2018 Range Rover will be offered with a 395-horsepower turbocharged inline-six engine with a 48-volt hybrid system or a new 523-horsepower twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 engine at launch. The base SE trim has the entry-level hybrid engine, however, the V-8 is optional on the SE and standard on the Autobiography and First Edition variants.

Land Rover claims that a 434-horsepower plug-in hybrid with up to 62 miles of electric-only driving will be available in 2023; an all-electric edition will be available in 2024; and a high-performance SV model is in the works, possibly with a more powerful version of the twin-turbo V-8. If we get an opportunity to test drive the new Range Rover, we'll update this page with our thoughts. In the meanwhile, the outgoing Range Rover, which may still be available on dealer lots, maybe a decent buy.

Real-World MPG and Fuel Economy

While EPA figures for the 2019 Range Rover have yet to be released, we expect it to be quite similar to the previous model's fuel efficiency ratings.

The conventional hybrid engine should achieve about 18 MPG in the city and 23 MPG on the highway, while the V-8 variant will achieve somewhat less in both categories. We'll update this post with further information regarding the Range Rover's fuel efficiency when we learn more. Visit the EPA's website for additional information on the Range Rover's fuel efficiency.

Cargo, Interior, and Comfort

The new Range Rover, like the previous generation, has a sumptuous inside with rich leathers and woods, but owners who want a more environmentally friendly cabin may choose a new Wool or other textiles are used instead of leather in this leather-free alternative.

The inside may accommodate four, five, or seven people depending on the configuration and wheelbase. The Range Rover's split rear lift gate may be utilized as practical and comfy seating for outdoor activities, while an optional motorized cargo divider keeps stuff from wandering around too much during travel.

Connectivity and Infotainment

All models come included with a new 13.1-inch curved infotainment display with Land Rover's new Pi vi Pro interface. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standards, and Amazon's Alexa speech assistant is also included.

Other standard features include a 13.7-inch digital gauge display, in-dash navigation, wireless smartphone charging, SiriusXM satellite radio, and SiriusXM satellite radio. A Meridian sound system with 35 speakers and a rear-seat entertainment system with twin 11.4-inch displays are available.

Features for Driver Assistance and Safety

The 2018 Range Rover is slated to come standard with a slew of sophisticated driver-assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control with a semi-autonomous driving mode. Visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites for further information on the Range Rover's crash-test results. Important safety elements are likely to include:

  • Automatic emergency braking is standard, featuring pedestrian and cyclist detection.
  • Lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist is standard.
  • Adaptive cruise control with the semi-autonomous driving mode is standard.

Coverage for Warranty and Maintenance

The Range Rover's warranty coverage is essentially comparable to that of its premium rivals, however, it does not include free regular maintenance. The BMW X7 and the Volvo XC90, for example, both include three years or 36,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance as part of the purchase price.

  • A four-year or 50,000-mile limited warranty comes standard.
  • The powertrain is covered by a four-year or 50,000-mile warranty.
  • There is no free planned maintenance.
